A benefit of being a Sunderland Yacht Club member is the sail coaching program, which takes place almost every Friday evening and Saturday afternoon throughout the spring and summer months. The object of the SYC Coaching programme is to develop the sailing skills of our members within a safe and structured environment. It is structured to encourage junior members onto the water in sailing dinghies, but is also open to adults who wish to learn. Since attaining RYA Volvo Championship Club status, SYC has access to RYA coaching resources proving a great benefit to those taking part.
Through continued investment the club also owns the necessary equipment required to successfully organise and run Coaching events. You don't even need to own your own boat to participate,but there are a limited number of club boats, and the allocation of trainees to boats will be made based on the amount of time a particular participant has spent in a boat. Priority been given to those with the least experience. Participants in the training scheme are encouraged to progress towards boat ownership.
Dates for 2011:
Saturday Training will commence: Sat 2nd April 1330
Friday training will commence: Friday 29th April 1900
No training will take place on Saturday 16th April!
As ever volunteers are essential to this program and anyone is welcome to lend a hand. No experience necessary. Full training provided in a range of roles and activities both on the water and ashore.
