The objective of Sunderland Yacht Club is to promote the sport of sailing, we actively encourage yacht racing, dinghy racing and cruising.

Cruiser races are organised on Saturdays, Sundays and Wednesday evenings the season starts late April and continues to late October, We have a large and active Sonata Fleet.

There is an active Dinghy Fleet with handicap racing every Sunday from April to December and Tuesday evenings from May to September.  Racing takes place either in Seaburn Bay, or within the sheltered Harbour.Our Dinghy Fleet consists of a variety of classes including: Toppers, Lasers, RS classes, Blaze’s, Asymmetric classes (including Musto Skiff & Spice), and more.

We organise Cruises in Company on weekends and some longer trips, along the Northumberland and North Yorkshire Coasts, our organised longer trips take us as far afield as Holland, Shetland,Orkney, West coast of Scotland and the Thames. Individual members have completed around Britain, The Jester Azores rally, and a number cruise the Mediterranean.

Sunderland Yacht Club offers sail training, to members, this takes place almost every Friday evening throughout the Spring and Summer months.  The object of the SYC sail training programme is to develop the sailing skills of our members within a safe and structured environment.  It is structured to encourage junior members onto the water in sailing dinghies, but is also open to adults who wish to learn
