Club Dinghies

The club has a fleet of boats which are available for members to use at the club. This provides a chance for you to try out different craft before you make a purchase of your own boat.

Club boats can only be hired when there is safety cover. You need to have RYA Stage 2 / Level 2 or equivalent skills to use the club boats outside of a training course or training session. We do not allow the hire of boats when it's very windy (20mph plus) due to the risk of damage to the boat or the sailors. If you book for a day which turns out to be too windy for you to go out we will move your allocation to another day. Club boats are not for use by visitors and non-members unless the boat is being used by a member to share their sport with a guest or potential member.

All boats are to be booked online, there is no facility for cash payment at the club. If you decide to take a club boat for a spin when you are at the club without pre-booking, this is absolutely fine but please be honest and pay for it when you get home (or contact the above by email and ask for it to be charged to you). The Committee will act to ensure club boats are paid for as they are a valuable club resource and the boat use fees go towards their maintenance costs.

Any damage or concerns, however small, should be reported immediately to training@sunderlandyachtclub.co.uk.

The hirer is responsible for the safe launching and recovery of the boat and for ensuring swimmers, small children etc are not in the vicinity.

When finished the boat and fittings must be washed down and returned to their specific storage place. If using the racks an adult must be involved in the stowage. Pico and Topper sails should be left on the masts and stored in the appropriate rack.

Boats are hired on the basis that if you hire the boat and it is returned damaged, the hirer pays for it or "you bend it, you mend it".
