Dinghy Racing
In addition to cruiser sailing, there is an active dinghy fleet with handicap racing at Sunderland Yacht Club.
Most Saturday afternoons throughout the summer season, racing and dinghy coaching is organised. We have direct access to the gently sloping Roker beach.
Any dinghy with a current Portsmouth Yardstick number is welcome at Sunderland. We run handicap racing with a competitive yet supportive fleet encouraging those new to the sport into racing. We have a range of club dinghies which can be hired for club racing by contacting the Training Flag Officer.
Racing takes place either in Seaburn Bay, or within the sheltered Sunderland Harbour depending on the weather conditions. Sunderland is an ideal location for those wishing to sail on the sea as we have sheltered launching, a gently sloping beach, moderate tides and only light commercial traffic.
